Genesis Turns Up the Heat with Magma
Genesis has been busy laying the groundwork for its new Magma Performance brand, which will eventually span from track cars to high-powered luxury EVs. The division was officially previewed earlier, with the GV60 Magma confirmed as the first model to reach production. Genesis says the GV60 Magma has now completed its global testing program. It’s expected to debut before the end of 2025, just in time to celebrate Genesis’ 10th anniversary with a 641-horsepower all-electric performance SUV – a high-end cousin to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
While the GV60 Magma sets the tone for Genesis’s electric performance ambitions, a recent sighting suggests the lineup could grow larger – literally. In Korea, a Genesis GV90 prototype was seen finished in a distinctive Magma Orange paint job, the same hue associated with the performance sub-brand. It’s enough to raise the question: Is Genesis working on a full-size performance SUV?
Magma Orange GV90: Coincidence or Teaser?
The bright orange GV90 spotted by Healer TV might not be as straightforward as it looks. On one hand, test cars often wear loud paintwork for visibility and photography, so it could simply be a development vehicle. On the other hand, the color’s clear tie to the Magma Division makes the timing curious.
If this is a preview of a potential GV90 Magma, it would mark Genesis’s boldest move yet – introducing performance DNA into a full-size electric luxury SUV. The concept aligns with Genesis’s desire to challenge Europe’s elite, where rivals like the BMW X7 and Mercedes EQS SUV already offer high-output variants. Alternatively, it could be a one-off marketing prototype, hinting at what the brand’s performance future might look like at the flagship level.

What We Know About the GV90 So Far
Genesis’s upcoming GV90 will sit above the GV80 as the brand’s flagship SUV. Previewed by the Neolun Concept, the production model will retain some of the concept’s standout features, including its futuristic cabin with purple accents and individual captain’s chairs. It will ride on Genesis’s new eM platform with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, designed for greater efficiency and refinement.
Genesis is reportedly finalizing development, with the first reveal expected in South Korea before the year ends. A US debut would likely follow in early 2026, positioning the GV90 as a 2027 model-year SUV. Whether that orange prototype signals a true “Magma” variant or just an eye-catching test car, it’s clear Genesis isn’t cooling down anytime soon.
