Garden fairies here!
We are garden fairies, and today we are breathing a sigh of relief, exhaling if you will, taking a well-deserved break for a multitude of good, well-thought out, and justifiable reasons.
Of course, you would probably like us to explain some of those good, well-thought out, and justifiable reasons, which we will do without further introductions, opening comments, and other enticements to get you to stay and read this entire post.
Let us begin.
First, out in the Vegetable Garden Cathedral, Granny ‘Gus’ McGarden was pleased to see that Carol cut down the corn stalks for disposal. Granny feared she might leave those standing all winter!
Of course, nothing is ever perfect or complete when Carol does them, so we will point out that she merely cut them off and left the stumps in place. We certainly hope she returns to dig those out! And when she does, she also needs to cut down the big sunflower stalks, which we garden fairies would have removed with the corn stalks.
But that is just our way. We will see what Carol does.
What Carol had better not do is touch those zinnias and marigolds just yet. They are still looking good, thanks to Granny and SweetPea MorningGlory. She should leave them until they are dead from frost, which appears to be weeks away. Weeks!
Second—we are garden fairies, we did not forget we are making a list of why we are taking a justified break—Carol cut off all the seedheads of the Northern Sea Oats. Seedy and Soddy were especially happy to see her do this because if she hadn’t, they would have had the job of cleaning up the mess from all those seeds sprouting everywhere. And we do mean everywhere.
We are garden fairies.
Third, we are taking a well-deserved break because finally it rained. Just a quarter-of-an-inch as we write this, but we will take it and use it to get all those lettuce seeds Carol sowed to grow. And the radishes too. That will keep some of us busy, along with tending the microgreens that Carol started indoors because she’s going to be doing a presentation about them to her garden club.
We are busy garden fairies!
It’s a lot of work but we are garden fairies, and we do not shy away from hard work. Which is why after Carol finished cutting back the Northern Sea Oats, we convinced her with our secret not-to-be-revealed ways and means to cut back all the seed heads of the Allium ‘Millenium.’
We are garden fairies! We absolutely do not want that allium to self-sow and compete with the Northern Sea Oats to see who can cover the most garden in a single season. No one needs that when you have asters, goldenrod, and even fleabane out there!
If you are counting and keeping track of our good, well-thought out, and justifiable reasons for taking a break and have high expectations for more than three reasons, you need to stop that nonsensical thinking.
We are garden fairies. We don’t need four reasons! Three is plenty!
Now, if you will pardon us, even as we take a break, we have duties, responsibilities, and obligations to fulfill to keep this garden going. Because you know and we know that if we don’t keep things at least a little bit nice, The Halloween Hare, the very one featured in Carol’s book, will make things a real mess in the garden in just a few weeks.
No one wants that!
We are garden fairies!

P. S. If you want to know what the The Halloween Hare could do in your garden, all the answers are in the book. You’ve been warned! VGM
