Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be a crease-less wonder
According to a recent report from ZDNet Korea, Samsung could use this new display tech to make its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 crease-less. We suppose this shouldn’t really come as a surprise. But rather, it feels like it’s about time.
Samsung has been resting on its laurels when it comes to its foldables. While they are probably the biggest name and were the first to market, Chinese OEMs were quick to innovate. This led to competing devices that were thinner, lighter, and had noticeably less crease compared to Samsung’s offerings.
However, with this new display tech, Samsung could finally give fans what they’ve been waiting for: a foldable smartphone with a truly crease-free display. The report claims that Samsung achieved it by modifying the optically clear adhesive layer. This lowers the stiffness, which allows more cushioning between the OLED and UTG layer during folding. Ultimately, it results in a display where the crease essentially becomes invisible.
But what about Apple?
Samsung isn’t alone in trying to chase a crease-less foldable. According to the rumors, Apple has reportedly solved this problem. In fact, the rumors say that Apple will source its displays from Samsung.
Now, you might be wondering if Samsung and Apple could end up using the same display, but as it turns out, they won’t. Samsung’s approach involves using a metal reinforcing plate to provide better structural stability. Apple’s approach, on the other hand, will use glass as a supporting material.
It’s hard to say which is “better,” so we’ll just have to wait and see. Apple is expected to unveil its first-ever foldable later this year around September. This means that based on Samsung’s previous launch dates, the company could actually beat Apple to the punch. We can’t wait to see what Samsung’s social media team will have to say about that.
