The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has been folded manually, by hand, 200,000 times. It managed to survive the ordeal, but this test did yield some interesting findings, which we’ll talk about here.
Before we get to that, however, let me just note that we wrote about this when the test was halfway done. At 120,010 folds, we wrote an article about it. As a reminder, the Tech IT YouTube channel from Korea conducted this test.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 survives 200,000 folds… but not without repercussions
The YouTuber paused every couple of thousand of folds in order to check the state of the phone and the display. This test took days to complete, as it’s not something you can do in a single day, that’s for sure.
This test is more realistic than the lab one that Samsung conducts. By the way, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rated for 500,000 folds. That’s something Samsung tested in a lab environment. This test is different, of course.
Reboot, creaking, crackling & liquid
So, what happened? Well, between 6,000 and 10,000 folds, the phone rebooted. At 46,000 folds, its hinge started making a creaking sound. When the YouTuber was at around 75,000 folds, a liquid started oozing out from the hinge.
When he hit the 100,000 mark, the YouTuber heard a slight crackling sound. At the point of 105,000 folds, the crease became slightly more noticeable. The phone did manage to last all the way to 200,000 folds, however. Its display and hinge were fine and working at that point.
What is worth noting, and has nothing to do with the hinge or the display, is that the speaker died at around 175,000 folds. That’s very good, needless to say, but there you go.
Either way, this test did prove that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 possesses the quality to work properly for years. It will take you a long time to fold it 200,000 times during regular usage, that’s for sure.
