It looks like Samsung is planning some significant display changes for its next clamshell foldable. According to a reliable tipster, we could be seeing substantial upgrades to both the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s inner and outer displays. This could address one of the most anticipated improvements for fans of the series.
The buzz is all about size and usability. Reportedly, both the main foldable screen on the inside and the cover screen on the outside are set to grow. While larger inner displays are always welcome for a more immersive viewing experience, the real excitement surrounds the outer, or cover, display.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 display upgrades: bigger size & full-screen
For those familiar with previous Galaxy Z Flip models (including the upcoming Z Flip 6), the cover screen has traditionally been functional but relatively small. It had a distinctive “folder-like” aesthetic with surrounding bezels. However, as we recently revealed with exclusive renders, the next-gen model will finally sport a truly full-screen cover display. Now, the latest report from Instant Digital on Weibo confirms the sizes of both screens of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7.
According to the report, the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s main display will have a size of 6.9 inches (6.7 inches on the Z Flip 6). Meanwhile, the cover flip display will be 4 inches in size (3.5 inches on the Z Flip 6). The reduced bezels around this display will also help achieve a stunning full-screen look. Think something like the latest Motorola Razr Ultra.
While Samsung would no longer be the first to implement a full-screen cover display on its foldable clamshell, it would be a game-changer for fans of the Z Flip lineup. This will allow them to quickly check notifications, respond to messages, take selfies with the main cameras, control music, and potentially even run full apps without needing to unfold the device. It would significantly enhance the functionality and convenience of the cover screen, making the folded form factor even more appealing. Using most of your favorite apps on the cover display would also help you save battery.
