Galaxy XR made its debut back in October last year and is the first to run on Google’s new Android XR platform. Despite being a costly affair at $1,800, the app support was a concern at launch, and it still is. While things aren’t nearly as bad as Apple Vision Pro, there’s room for more. It appears that Samsung is fixing that, as it’s now rolling out the SmartThings app to Galaxy XR.
Samsung has released a dedicated SmartThings app for Galaxy XR
As spotted by SamMobile, the SmartThings app looks clean and pretty simple to use. The app is apparently just like its mobile counterpart, but has been optimized for Galaxy XR. The addition of the SmartThings app means you can now control your smart home while wearing the device (Galaxy XR). This adds to the convenience factor.
Having said that, it’s not entirely good news. The SmartThings app for Galaxy XR lacks some features found on the mobile app and even Samsung TVs. The most notable one is Map View, which isn’t available at the moment.
There are some limitations
It’s possible that Samsung could be planning a more advanced SmartThings Map View designed specifically for XR. But then again, this could just be optimistic thinking. So don’t take it for certain just yet. Despite the lack of features, this development boosts confidence that Samsung hasn’t forgotten about its Galaxy XR device and is working on improving the experience. As for the missing features, there’s always a chance that Samsung may add them in future updates.
