Much is unknown about the Galaxy S26 Ultra, from the type of glass it will use to the amount of money it will cost and when it’ll be available for purchase. But, it looks like there may be a little more information about the glass that protects the display panel, based on a new rumor that has popped up. Several leaks and rumors have surfaced over the past few months about Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy S device. For instance, the official color names of the phone leaked earlier this week.
Just earlier this morning, it was also rumored that the Galaxy S26 would come with a built-in privacy screen. If that’s true, then there would be no need to actually buy and apply a privacy screen protector. The latest rumor suggests that the glass protecting the display panel will be a new generation of Gorilla Glass with incredibly high strength.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra screen will solve problems that once required a tempered glass screen protector
Gorilla Glass has always been the standard when it comes to built-in display protection for phones and tablets. It’s not the only solution, but it does generally tend to be the favored option. With that being said, a new rumor from Ice Universe on X claims that the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra will be coming with a new generation of Gorilla Glass that will solve all the problems that usually require a screen protector.
This includes needing a tempered glass screen protector for strength to protect against cracks and scratches from drops and dings. It’s also stated that the glass will include elements that would do the same thing as a privacy screen protector. It’s also claimed to have anti-reflective properties and ultra-clear film technology. Basically, the glass covering the display panel on the Galaxy S26 Ultra will have all the elements of any of the films you’d apply to the display as an aftermarket accessory. This doesn’t necessarily mean people will stop buying screen protectors or other types of display films. However, it does suggest that people will have less of a reason to buy them. Which could lead to lower sales. Though it might still be a good idea to apply a tempered glass screen protector anyway. Better safe than sorry, after all. Plus, it never hurts to have extra protection. Especially with how expensive phones are now.
