When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, its incredibly slim profile raised a few eyebrows. Naturally, many wondered if such a slender device could truly be durable. Its power and complicated repairability also generated some concern. We already had some reassurance on the durability front, with tests showing the phone is quite robust. Now, a new teardown video delivers even better news: the Galaxy S25 Edge is surprisingly easy to repair.
If you’re not aware, Samsung pulled off some serious tricks to pack all the Galaxy S25 Edge’s cutting-edge tech into a case that’s just 5.8 mm thick. So, the company had a big challenge ahead of it in making the device both slim and durable. A potential bendgate like the one on the iPhone 6 series could have doomed the handset. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Galaxy S25 Edge isn’t much harder to repair than its chunkier siblings
The tech community’s go-to for repair insights, PBKReviews, recently put the Galaxy S25 Edge under the microscope with a detailed disassembly video. The verdict is in, and it’s positive: the device earned an impressive repairability score of 8.5 out of 10. The same reviewer gave the standard Galaxy S25 a 9/10 in the same tests. This means that the Edge’s ultra-slim profile doesn’t significantly complicate repairs.
The video shows that opening up and putting the Galaxy S25 Edge back together follows a familiar process for most modern smartphones. It involves steps like removing the SIM tray, applying heat to the back panel, and then using tools to carefully detach it. From there, it’s a matter of unscrewing Philips screws, disconnecting cables, and eventually removing the battery.
The teardown video highlighted several aspects that contributed to its high score. Parts availability received a perfect 2 out of 2, as did battery and miscellaneous parts replacement. Screen replacement, often a tricky area for many devices, scored a respectable 1 out of 2.
This news should certainly ease any concerns for those considering the Galaxy S25 Edge but holding back due to worries about potential repairability. Despite its sleek and minimalist design, it seems Samsung has engineered a device that allows for relatively accessible repairs. This is a welcome development for consumers and a win for sustainability in the smartphone world.
