Samsung introduced the Galaxy AI suite of generative artificial intelligence-powered features alongside the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024. Ever since, Samsung has been offering the premium Galaxy AI features for free to the owners of flagship Galaxy devices. However, according to a report from Korea, Samsung plans to announce its pricing policy for the Galaxy AI functionalities in the coming months.
A recent report indicated that Samsung’s Galaxy AI features may remain free forever, despite previous announcements that they’d be available free only until late 2025. However, the new report from Korea suggests otherwise.
We may finally be getting the pricing for Samsung’s Galaxy AI features
When Samsung launched the Galaxy AI features, it announced that the “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices.” With a few months left, Samsung is now considering a pricing model for some Galaxy AI functionalities.
As per the Korean media, Samsung will announce its pricing policy for Galaxy AI by the third quarter of 2025. Companies like Google and Honor are already charging their users for advanced AI features, and Samsung could join the club soon.
All of the major AI platforms at present have paid tiers for features that consume more processing power. OpenAI’s ChatGPT offers a free service, but it also provides options that include a $20/month “Plus” and a $200/month “Pro” subscription. Similarly, Google has a paid Gemini subscription starting at $20/month.
Samsung might not put all the AI features behind a paywall
Furthermore, the report suggests that Samsung might not charge for all the Galaxy AI features under the upcoming pricing strategy. It could put only the advanced AI capabilities, such as AI video generation, behind a paywall. Basic Galaxy AI features, like Circle to Search and Live Translate, could continue to be accessible for free for everyone.
Samsung could put a price on the Galaxy AI suite at the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7’s launch event next month. A major Unpacked event seems to be a perfect time for Samsung to detail the future of Galaxy AI. Perhaps, the company may also introduce some more advanced Galaxy AI functionalities alongside a pricing model at the event next month.
