Just days before Apple‘s event, a last-minute rumor is sparking excitement among fans. The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. For the first time since its introduction, the Dynamic Island might be getting a redesign, starting with the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
The new leak comes from the X/Twitter account that_one_g3, who allegedly works at a company that produces iPhone screen protectors. The post suggests that Apple has managed to shrink the Dynamic Island. The rumor should be taken with a grain of salt given the source’s lack of a track record. However, they claim the cutout will be 1.5cm wide, a 25% reduction from the 2cm size on previous models. Photos of screen protectors from the alleged source seem to confirm the change, at least for the higher-end Pro models.

This might not be the first time you’ve heard this rumor. Conflicting reports have been swirling for months. Some analysts have speculated a smaller Dynamic Island exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro while others claimed the change might not happen until a future model. This latest leak, however, specifically points to both the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
If this rumor is true, it would be a big move for Apple. Not only would it be the first hardware change to the Dynamic Island since it debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro.
The smaller Dynamic Island would also further differentiate the Pro variants from the standard iPhone 17 and 17 Air. These models are expected to retain the larger size for the Dynamic Island, as shown in the images below.
It’s a last-minute twist in a sea of rumors. While it’s tempting to get your hopes up, we won’t have to wait long to see if this leak holds up. Luckily we won’t have to wait long, since Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event is close.
