Fortnite is making its Google Play return on a global scale this week, as Epic Games confirmed on March 19 that the game is now available on Google Play once more in all regions where Google Play is available. Following its disagreements with Google and Apple over in-app purchase fees, it tried to skirt around paying them which resulted in both companies pulling Fortnite from their respective stores. A court battle with Google that would last years finally ended in 2025 with Epic’s victory.
This resulted in Google and Epic agreeing to settle the case, provided Google makes certain changes. The settlement has yet to be approved, but Google started making those changes early, lowering Play Store fees earlier this month. It also resulted in Fortnite being put back on the Play Store, but only in the US at the time. This was back in early to mid December. Of course, gamers in other regions could still install Fortnite on their Android devices. They just had to grab the APK from Epic Games directly.
Fortnite goes global again on Google Play
While the game was made available on Google Play again for US Android users last year, today marks the day that all Android users around the world can once again install the game via Google’s store front. That’s a pretty big deal given how long it’s been away. It also won’t be surprising if this results in a boost for Fortnite’s player numbers.
After all, more players are trying new games all the time, and that’s especially true for live service games like Fortnite. Not to mention Fortnite is consistently reinventing itself with new ways to play, and that tends to draw in hordes of new players to check things out.
The Google Play revival is coming at a good time, too. Fortnite is starting a new battle pass season. This means players who jump back in will be able to unlock tons of fresh stuff. Plus, Fortnite is teasing an upcoming Game of Thrones collaboration, and that has the potential to pull in players.
