Apple recently unveiled the MacBook Neo. It had an interesting naming scheme, but Apple’s not stopping there. In fact, there was also a rumor that Apple’s upcoming touchscreen OLED laptop could be known as the MacBook Ultra. Now, the latest rumors are suggesting that the upcoming iPhone Fold could launch under a different name as well.
Apple might adopt different name for iPhone Fold
For the longest time ever, we’ve been referring to Apple’s foldable iPhone as the iPhone Fold, but now it seems that it could launch under a different name: the iPhone Ultra. This actually comes from a couple of different sources. One of which is Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, where his latest Power On newsletter claims Apple could use the Ultra branding in more products. Then, there is another post on Weibo which refers to the device as the iPhone Ultra.
However, we should note that Gurman’s report has a small caveat. Gurman does not explicitly claim that the foldable iPhone will be known as the iPhone Ultra. Instead, he suggests that Apple is shifting towards creating higher-end “Ultra” devices. However, he’s not sure if the company will adopt the “Ultra” name for its foldable.
His report also highlights how these “Ultra” products basically cast a shadow over the rest of Apple’s lineup. And he has a point.
Apple’s Ultra lineup
We’ve already seen Apple use the Ultra branding in some of its products before. For starters, there’s the Apple Watch Ultra. It sports better hardware than the other models, and has a completely different look. That definitely helps it stand out.
Also, Apple has used the Ultra name for its M-series of chipsets, indicating that these are the top-of-the-line models. So, a MacBook with a touchscreen OLED display will definitely be a differentiating factor and is deserving of the Ultra designation. The same can be said for the foldable iPhone, where it will sit apart from the rest of the lineup.
Gurman’s report also claims Apple could apply the Ultra branding to a pair of AirPods. These AirPods are rumored to come with built-in cameras, which will feed data from your surroundings to Siri. All of these devices already sound pretty expensive. The iPhone Ultra, last we heard, could cost as much as $2,400.
So, if you want to be an “Ultra” Apple fan, be prepared to pay for it.
