Next-gen flagship smartphones could end up offering more RAM for one specific reason. Many of you probably could have guessed it easily, yes, it’s AI. The information comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known tipster, and he does make a good point. Upcoming flagship phones could end up sporting 24GB of RAM, instead of 16GB, mainly due to AI.
Your next phone could end up featuring 24GB of RAM because of AI and chip power
Over on Weibo, he said that the next-gen flagship processors, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and MediaTek Dimensity 9500, will arrive doubled AI computing power compared to their predecessors.
The performance improvement of both chips is also considerable, despite the fact this is just one generation we’re talking about. That will result in companies opting to include more RAM inside their phones, and the same goes for storage.
Digital Chat Station claims that more companies will go for 24GB of RAM, which could become the new top-end standard. Until now, that was 16GB of RAM. True, some smartphones in China did offer 24GB, those were mostly gaming phones, however. It was also not a common occurrence in markets outside of China.
Both the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and the Dimensity 9500 will have great AI performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will deliver up to 10 TOPS (trillion operations per second), when it comes to AI performance. The Dimensity 9500 is expected to offer something similar. AI will require more RAM so that it can do its thing and take advantage of all that power.
Will this result in higher prices for smartphones? Well, that’s quite probable, as higher memory prices will likely affect the end price of products. It’s also worth noting that more storage will accompany RAM, quite probably, so that could affect the prices of phones too.
If something doesn’t drastically change in the process, tariffs could further affect price tags in the US. There are a lot of factors to consider here. The point is, you can expect more phones with 24GB of RAM on the market next year.
