I’m a big fan of ski racing. The action on the slopes is just thrilling to watch. As a recreational skier, I admire how the top athletes can conquer the ice and cold at top speeds. I’ve been a mom to two female ski racers, so naturally the Women’s World Cup races hold special interest for me. I was keen to check out the newest FIS World Cup Venue Mont Tremblant in Quebec Canada.
I’ve been going to the World Cup ski races at Killington for the past few years and have loved the energy and excitement of this sporting event–it’s like no other for thrills and athleticism. This year I added at trip to Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Canada to my travel circuit. Tremblant got to play host to the fastest women on snow in 2023 as part of a multi-year agreement to host a skiing World Cup race. They dubbed the event the Coupe du Monde. I give the venue and the races high marks for execution.
Get your tickets: Tremblant World Cup will be December 7 and 8, 2024.

Recap of the 2023Â Tremblant World Cup
By the numbers:Â
- 67 athletes competed
- 18 countries were represented
- 300 volunteers helped make it all happen
- Over 15,000 total spectators attended the races on Saturday and Sunday, making it the second most-attended women’s World Cup event after Killington, Vt.
Saturday was the first of two Giant Slalom Races. The giant slalom has characteristics of both the slalom and the downhill, the latter a longer, faster race. Giant slalom gates are wider and set farther apart, and the course is longer than in the slalom.Â
Notably, Italian racer Federica Brignone became the oldest woman to win a World Cup giant slalom event at Saturday’s race. This wasn’t the only record she broke. She’s now the Italian female skier with the most World Cup wins (23) and has the most Giant Slalom podiums in Italian skiing history (32). She’s 33, and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Her joy was infectious and the crowd adored her.
Here’s the official result:Â Federica Brignone came in first, Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova was second and American Mikaela Shiffren came in third. It was Mikaelas 142nd career podium.

Sunday was a foggier day with tricky visibility on the second run. Snow started falling steadily and the wind whipped up. Italy’s Federica Brignone conquered the course again and captured her second World Cup giant slalom victory. After the first run of the day, Brignone trailed Olympic champion Petra Vlhova of Slovakia by 1.22 seconds. Brignone made up the difference on a speedy second run. Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami came in second, and American Mikaela Shiffrin claimed her 143rd career podium with a third place finish.
This was Brignone’s 10th World Cup Giant Slalom’s win. I’d say she had quite a weekend and will be a a huge fan of this venue going forward.Â

About the Venue
The events were extremely well organized and professionally run. From start to finish, guests were treated to a great day. I love that there is no need for a car at Mont Tremblant. Once you are parked, everything is very close at hand. The free Cabriolet lift is ready to transport you from the bottom to the top of the pedestrian village, but it’s also fun to stroll the inclined streets and explore.
Tremblant World Cup treated visitors to not only great races, but also great entertainment. There were tons of activities spread across the pedestrian village. There were interactive booths, live music and of course amazing food and drink.
Saturday night, the mountain hosted a lively “bib draw.” They gathered the top athletes on stage to play a game of chance (sort of) that sets the start order for the next day’s races. It gave the fans a fun chance to see and hear from all the top athletes.
The bib draw, as well as the shows on Friday and Saturday, were all at the Place des Voyageurs, at the foot of the pedestrian village, opposite the clock tower.

The race took place right in front of the main village on the Flying Mule trail. As the fans flooded in, the announcers kept us entertained with fun facts. There was compromised visibility both days, and it was hard to see the top of the course. But the organizers had a large video screen set up so everyone in the crowd could see the top of the course via video. I would advise the addition of a second screen to allow for more viewers to see the races from the back of the crowd.Â
Once the racers were down the course, eager fans were able to interact with the women as they made their way to the lodge to warm up between runs. Many women passed out signed posters and cards to young fans. The crowd was especially enthusiastic about all the Canadian racers. The roar was nearly deafening when top skier Valier Genier came down the course.
The first run started at 11am and the second at 2:15pm. The first racers include more than 60 women vying for the top 30 times to earn them a second run. That wraps up after about 2 hours. Between runs, guest could wander the village or hit the slopes. The race is right next to the main gondola making it easy to squeeze in a few long laps before heading back to the spectator area.Â

Getting to Mont Tremblant
From Vermont, Mont Tremblant is a pretty straightforward 4.5 hour drive. GPS said 4 hours, but we hit Montreal traffic. I’m a big fan of Mont Tremblant. It’s a mountain with incredible views, great food and loads of character. Yes, they are known for cold conditions, but they more than make up for it with the vibe. If you are looking for a wonderful host venue, you can’t beat this spot. Tremblant World Cup offers something for everyone.Â
From Montreal, it’s about an hour to the resort. The Montreal airport is a large, modern space with many direct flights from the US.
Where to Stay
Tremblant has a ton of different options for families. Choose from luxurious mountainside lodges, charming boutique hotels, or spacious condos on vrbo (search VRBO here). I’ve tried all four! This trip I booked a room at the Marriott Residence Inn. Check out our video here:
