While most Android smartphone brands are racing for flagship specs, one company is focusing primarily on repairability, longevity and “fair trade.” We’re talking about Fairphone, which launched its latest smartphone, the Fairphone (Gen. 6), aka Fairphone 6. While the new model improves in key aspects, the company seems to have compromised on the camera department this time around.
Fairphone 6 features a 120Hz display, dual-rear camera setup, and more
The Fairphone 6 features a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display, which is slightly smaller than its predecessor’s 6.46-inch screen. However, the company has bumped the refresh rate to 120Hz. For the uninitiated, the Fairphone 5 has a 90Hz screen refresh rate. Under the hood, the Fairphone 6 packs the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. This smartphone also comes with expandable storage of up to 2TB and support for SDXC cards.
Talking of cameras, the Fairphone 6 sports a dual-rear camera setup, featuring a 50MP primary camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera. On the front, you’ll find a 32MP hole-punch camera for selfies and video calls. Well, that’s a significant downgrade from the Fairphone 5, which features three 50MP rear cameras.
Speaking of design, the Fairphone 6 looks much like its predecessor. However, the camera lenses at the back now sit right on the back panel. The back panel looks more modular, allowing you to remove and replace the lower section using two screws. You can add a wallet holding cards or a finger loop, which is quite useful for butterfingers out there. It’ll be interesting to see what accessories will be available in the future to make the most of this feature.
On top of that, the modular aspect allows you to access and swap 12 different parts, including the screen, battery, and USB ports, all just by using a standard screwdriver. Not to forget, the company is offering a five-year warranty and eight years of software support for the Fairphone 6. Unfortunately, the latest smartphone still comes with an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance. In other words, it won’t survive accidental submersion.

Fairphone Moments, pricing, and availability
Fairphone has also introduced something called “Fairphone Moments.” The company says it gets activated via a physical switch on the phone’s side and allows you to “toggle between a full-featured smartphone and a minimalist experience.” Fairphone further notes that the feature is “a mindful way to engage with technology, putting owners in control, not their notifications.”
The Fairphone 6 is now available through the company’s online store and other European retailers for €599 (∼ $696). You can pick the smartphone from three different shades: black, green, and white. In the US, the device will only be available through Murena and is expected to ship sometime in August. Do note that the Murena version of the Fairphone 6 features a privacy-focused and de-Googled Android version called /e/OS. You can pre-order it now for $899.
