- He reportedly attacked the woman, stabbed a dog, and started a fire.
Facebook Marketplace is incredibly popular and has changed how people buy used cars. Unfortunately, there’s plenty of bad mixed in with the good.
This extends to more than just the vehicles themselves as meeting strangers from the internet is always dicey, especially when there’s money involved. That’s clear once again as a deal gone bad has resulted in murder.

According to NBC 5 Chicago, Eliza Morales’ husband posted a 1994 Ford Ranger on Marketplace and was quickly contacted by 19-year-old Nedas Revuckas. He picked up the truck the same day it was listed, but the rushed transaction meant there was no bill of sale and some other issues.
From Dispute to Homicide
The two parties agreed to take care of this after the weekend. The following Monday, Revuckas reportedly showed up with screwdriver in hand and a struggle began shortly after encountering Eliza.
He was reportedly upset about the condition of the truck, so he allegedly stabbed Morales 70 times and set the apartment on fire. If that wasn’t brutal enough, Revuckas also stabbed the family’s dog in the face. Thankfully, the pitbull mix survived and managed to escape the fire.
The Downers Grove Fire and Police Departments responded and found Morales dead. Officers then tracked down Revuckas, who reportedly denied being involved in the attack. However, he allegedly went on to confess to the crime and claimed he only stabbed her ten times.
The Village of Downers Grove said Revuckas has been charged with first degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, armed robbery, aggravated arson, and aggravated cruelty to animals. Illinois doesn’t have the death penalty, so Revuckas is likely looking at spending most, if not all, his remaining life behind bars.
While this story had a tragic end, Facebook advises Marketplace users to meet in a public, well-lit area. It’s also worth noting many police departments have special locations for meetups, which is far safer than going to a stranger’s home or having them come to yours.
