The evo brand is on a mission to break down the barriers that prevent us from playing together. For many, the combination of a lack of funds and a lack of education creates a wall that feels insurmountable. That’s where the team at evo steps in. They began with an online presence that has expanded to include 11 stores in the U.S. and Canada, with the addition of Rhythm Japan’s stores in 2022. That same year, evo launched an experimental campus that includes a hotel.
I’ve wanted to work with evo for years. I love their efforts to unite people through educational events and support volunteer initiatives. On a recent ski trip to Utah, we arranged an overnight stay at the evo Hotel in Salt Lake City.

About the Evo Hotel
The 50-room hotel was the first of three new hotel concepts to open (Tahoe and Hakuba, Japan, have since followed). The owners aim to break down barriers to outdoor access by creating spaces that make families and individuals feel welcome. The campus occupies 10,000 square feet in an up-and-coming area of Salt Lake City.
Located in the Granary District, the hotel is close to the Wasatch Mountain Range, renowned for hiking, biking, climbing, skiing, and snowboarding. It’s approximately 30 minutes to Alta and Snowbird—the closest canyon to the hotel.
When you enter the hotel, you’ll find a welcome desk and a large open lobby. On the right is the evo shop; on the left, the skate park. Check-in was easy, and we booked everything online. Keep in mind that the light staffing helps keep prices low, so don’t expect extensive assistance, but the staff is very friendly.

About the Rooms
Our room, 201, featured a deck with mountain views and two queen beds. At approximately 300 square feet, it provided enough space to store our gear between outings. The industrial and minimalist design is family-friendly and unpretentious, with plenty of hooks and ample floor space. The rooms showcase artwork by local artists, making each unique. Pets under 50 lbs are allowed for a $25 per pet, per night fee. Room configurations include bunk setups for families with children.
The rates are very affordable, but you’re sacrificing space and amenities like laundry, a fridge, or a kitchen. This hotel is ideal for a quick mountain getaway if you already have a pass and can piece together meals on the mountain or in Salt Lake City.

What to Do at the Evo Hotel
While it’s an excellent base for mountain adventures, the campus itself offers plenty to do:
- All Together Skate Park: This 5,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor park features flat banks, quarter pipes, a half pipe, ledges, and a flat bar. Designed to facilitate skill progression, it offers wood and Skatelite surfaces suitable for all ages and abilities. The park is closed on Tuesdays and hosts Women, Trans & Gender Non-Conforming Skate Nights on the second Thursday of each month from 7 PM to 9 PM, hosted by The Rose Club.
- Bouldering Project Climbing Wall: Guests enjoy access to world-class climbing walls, yoga and fitness studios, and open fitness spaces with weights and cardio equipment. Saunas are available in the locker rooms. This amenity caters to first-timers, seasoned climbers, yogis, and everyone in between.
- Evo Store & Rentals: Located off the lobby, this store handles gear rentals and offers a wide selection of skis, snowboards, bikes, skateboards, and clothing. Services include ski, snowboard, bike, and backcountry rentals, as well as a service shop for repairs and boot fitting. The space also houses an art gallery featuring rotating exhibits curated by local artists.
Location and Convenience
Since the hotel is not in a busy area, it’s relatively affordable. It’s conveniently close to the airport—just six minutes away. However, parking is limited, and the drop-off area can be tricky to navigate. On our visit, parking was full, but we relied on Ubers for this part of our trip. Note that the location lacks walkable dining and shopping options, so you’ll likely need a rental car or budget for ride-shares.

Dining Options
The hotel has a cafe and ample lobby space for eating carry-out or delivery meals. However, there’s no on-site restaurant. While there’s an upstairs bar, it’s not always open. Planning meals will be essential.
Rates and Deals
The evo Hotel keeps prices low due to its location outside the mountains. With proper planning (and help from evo), it can be an affordable hub for snowy adventures. A weekend rate for four people came to $136.96 per night with a AAA discount. An Expedia search revealed even lower rates, sometimes under $120.
Evo also offers a “ski package”: Book a room and receive one complimentary premium ski or snowboard rental package per stay. Additional rentals are 30% off during your stay. This offer is valid through April 2025, switching to mountain bike rentals in the summer.
