A 41-unit, five-story apartment building has launched construction on Maverick Street in East Boston, one of a cluster of smaller multifamily projects underway in the area, the Boston Business Journal reported. The development under construction at 9 McKay Pl., about four blocks from the middle of Maverick Square, is expected to include a 2,200-square-foot public park facing Maverick Street and an abutting 1,200-square-foot commercial space.
The development is led by an owner and developer with a limited liability corporation registered in North Kingstown, RI, reported the Business Journal. Zephyr Architects of Boston is also involved.
The 9 McKay Pl. development joins projects that include 170 apartments at 355 Bennington St. in Day Square, 29 units at 7-11 Curtis St. and 26 apartments at 28-30 Geneva St. Elsewhere, a 94-unit project at 135 Bremen St. has been approved, and a group of projects totaling 88 units were proposed this summer. A Cambria hotel is also under construction in East Boston.
