When an automaker decides to call one of its models an “SUV”, that means it needs to be versatile. The SUV as a concept was first coined in the mid 1970s with the Jeep Cherokee. It was officially referred to as a Sport-Utility Vehicle, and was meant to handle a wide range of circumstances, ranging from rough terrain to hauling family gear about. After all, any parent will know just how much stuff comes with having a child involved in some sort of outdoor activity.
