As cities become more populated, they’re also becoming more polluted. Ensuring one’s sliver of domestic bliss—and retreat—is comfortable, safe, relatively quiet, and healthy is essential. Purifying the air of these oft-tiny dwellings is key and not just for its resident’s physical wellbeing but also their peace of mind. These freestanding devices, however, are almost always bulky and unsightly. They take up too much of the already limited space. Longevity is always an issue. If that weren’t bad enough—altogether outweighing the benefits of contaminant removal—these unwieldy machines tend to emit enough noise that having a conversation at a normal volume becomes impossible.
The new Dyson HushJet Compact Purifier does a lot to rectify these issues and others. It completely changes the paradigm of how this technology can actually be used. The conical apparatus is significantly smaller than comparable products and yet, operates with increased efficiency. Its extensive range of coverage is also impressive. Sleekly designed with a light grey shell—it’s also available in a black and blue configuration—the HushJet incorporates a rounded star-shape fan nozzle that is pleasantly neotenic, even architectonic. Though bold, this component—enhancing airflow while minimizing noise—is fully contained within the profile of the object. It acts like the concentrators found on hairdryers, increasing airflow velocity; doing its thing harder, better, faster, stronger.
Though sleeky designed and formed to ‘fit-in’ with a whole host of interior aesthetics, the device can also be easily concealed and tucked away. The Dyson HushJet is equal parts statement piece and hyper-performative mechanics. It’s both style and substance.
The petite air purifier operates at just 24 dB in sleep mode but captures 99.97% of pollutants, some as small as 0.3 microns. HushJet’s electrostatic filter lasts up to five years, five times longer than earlier Dyson models. With a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 250 m³/h, it provides effective purification for rooms up to 228 square feet in size. Intelligent sensors monitor air quality in real time and automatically adjust output.
“We have developed a way to smooth high speed airflow to minimise turbulence and reduce aerodynamic noise, allowing the Dyson HushJet to deliver very high-volume airflow while generating minimal noise,” says brand founder and noted inventor James Dyson. “We have transformed the compact purifier, creating our most efficient small-format machine.”
With all of this wrapped up in a small package, one can rest assured that they’ll get sick less often and find sanctuary at home.
