The Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge launch is looking less like a possibility and more like a “never gonna happen” scenario. Following Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge in 2025, the ultra-slim phone didn’t exactly light the world on fire, and it failed to meet Samsung’s sales expectations. That could be due to a declining interest in “the ultra-slim phone,” as Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge wasn’t that different from the other variants. Samsung could simply make the other models thinner.
An Edge model also seems like it might cannibalize possible sales of the non-Edge models. In other words, does Samsung really have a reason to launch one? Based on the sales, it does not seem so. Samsung is also not likely to release a Galaxy Z TriFold 2 anytime soon, if at all. The tri-fold market is still pretty new and extremely niche. Not to mention, Samsung’s version of this phone category launched at an extremely high price tag. One that not many consumers are probably willing to pay.
A Galaxy S26 Edge launch is probably not in the cards because the previous model didn’t sell well
Speaking with Bloomberg this week following the announcement of the Galaxy S26, Samsung’s Chief Operating Officer, Won-Joon Choi, stated that Samsung isn’t committed to “another iPhone Air rival or a second tri-fold.” According to Choi, sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge were “relatively lower than other lineups.” This statement was part of the same interview where Choi mentioned that the S Pen is being upgraded.
This suggests that the phone didn’t perform well in sales shipments. If that’s the case, then it probably isn’t worth Samsung’s time and effort to develop and launch a new version of the phone. Since it’s likely that not many people would buy it. A second tri-fold phone is in the same boat. While that has sold out quickly every time it came back in stock since its launch, Samsung didn’t make nearly as many as it does of the Galaxy S lineup. As the higher price tag would likely be a turn-off for the majority of consumers. In fact, the high price of production and how hard the phone is to manufacture are two big reasons why Samsung may not be interested in doing a follow-up.
Samsung does appear to be interested in other foldables, though. Choi has stated that customers want to be offered “different experiences” when it comes to foldables. So, that suggests other types of foldables are being considered. This could include Samsung’s rumored Galaxy Wide Fold in addition to something completely different.
