Samsung Galaxy S26
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 is the latest and greatest flagship from what is arguably the most well-known Android phone brand globally. The phone offers quite a few things to users, but you might be wondering if it has an SD card slot for microSD cards. There was a time when just about every single phone would have this as one of the features. It was a way to give the user extra storage on the phone, and quite frankly, it was a necessary thing. Back then, most phones didn’t have a very large internal storage capacity. So, things like microSD cards were used to supplement this. Samsung was among those manufacturers, of course. But what about its most recent flagship smartphone?
The short answer is no. The phone doesn’t come with an SD card slot for microSD cards. The phone relies entirely on internal storage. There’s a reason for that, of course. Internal phone storage capacity has increased significantly over the years. There’s no real need to have microSD cards on phones anymore. It does take away some of the user choice which is a shame. That being said, it’s not like users are out of options for storage beyond what’s there internally.
While the Samsung Galaxy S26 doesn’t have an SD card slot, there are alternatives to more storage
With the Galaxy S26 starting at 256GB of storage, there’s already a ton of space for the majority of users. However, you might be a user who desire or needs to have more than just 256GB. The good news is that Samsung also offers the phone in a 512GB model. If you need even more storage space, there are solutions.
Use a USB-Type C SSD
These are somewhat new devices that you can plug into your phone’s USB-C port. Something like the Planck SSD would be an option here, though it’s not the only one. Lexar makes one, and like the Planck, it’s a relatively small piece of hardware that basically looks like a USB-C adapter you’d find for wireless earbuds or headphones. The small size makes it extremely portable and easy to keep plugged in for the day if you’re going to be using it a lot.
This is a great option for anyone that either constantly needs more space for random stuff, but it’s also great for working professionals and creators.
External SSDs are an option as well
If you don’t want something like a tiny USB-C SSD, you can opt for the external SSD that you plug into your phone with a USB-C cable. This will give you the same result but it’s more intended for quick plug-ins for file transfers and such. Not so much a solution that’s meant to stay plugged into the USB-C port for longer periods of time. This can work perfectly if you just need a place to offload photos and videos to free up space on the phone.
Utilize cloud storage
The most convenient option is of course, cloud storage. Any Android phone is going to have several available options. Samsung phones, for example, have Samsung cloud as a native option you can set up. You also have options like Google Drive. If it’s just cloud storage for photos and videos, you can just use Google Photos. Then you have a metric ton of options from third-party services like Dropbox, OneDrive, and many others. This is the most convenient because you don’t have to plug anything in and it’s still always accessible as long as you have an internet connection.
