Once upon a time, the idea of using a pickup truck as a daily driver for the whole family would have been preposterous. Our older readers will remember when truck cabs were typically cramped, utilitarian boxes. You would be lucky to have so much as a functioning climate control system, and the seats were fixed in a permanent upright position that would have you wanting to take a break to stretch your legs every five or ten miles. Old C-10s and Toyota pickups were appealing in their simplicity and in their rugged durability, but they were a far cry from the SUV-like trucks of the modern era.
