If you’re the sort of shopper craving an American SUV with a famous V8 engine under the hood, you’ve basically got two places to go: Dodge or Chevrolet / GMC. Ford’s highest-performing SUVs run twin-turbo V6 engines these days, the result of a pivot to downsized engines that kicked off decades ago. Ford will still happily sell you a V8 engine in the Mustang or a psychotic V8 in the Raptor R, though their SUV powertrain lineup contains a V8-sized hole.
