On the Rise
The Nissan GT-R nameplate is one of the most legendary ever, and with such a storied history, it’s hard to pick out which models are “the best.” However, the GT-R is taking a break from production; the brand has not yet provided a concrete return date. This has led to a steady rise in prices for older models being sold on the market.
One of these models is the R33 Nissan GT-R, a car often overshadowed by the game-changing R32 (otherwise known as the original Godzilla), but in many ways, it is an improvement over it. A very rare version of the R33 is now on sale, and the spec it comes in makes it worth considering.

The Definitive R33
Listed on Cars and Bids is a rare 1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo S1 specification. The R33 itself is already quite the car, being an improvement of the legendary R32. This generation had a sophisticated chassis and the revered RB26DETT, a straight-six turbo engine that produced 276 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque stock. However, the S1-spec models have been known to push over 300 hp. It had a 5-speed transmission that sent power to the HICAS All-Wheel Steering System.
The particular car for sale is in a highly coveted Midnight Purple hue (the definitive R33 color). It features aftermarket side skirts, a rear bumper, a carbon fiber spoiler, and a 400R-style front bumper. Rounding out the exterior are the gold 18-inch Rays Engineering Volk Racing TE37 Rims.
Inside this R33 are a couple of interesting Nismo parts like the seats, gauge cluster, and center console gauges. It also features a Momo steering wheel, an aftermarket shift knob, and a Sony head unit.
Diving deeper into the Nismo S1 specification, this upgrade package was introduced to improve the performance of the R33. Particularly, BNR34 Turbochargers, S1 Intake, S1 Manifold, S1 Camshafts, and enhanced cooling components. There are also a few S1 stickers applied to the exterior of the car.

Buyers Beware
One thing to note about this particular R33 is that it remains right-hand drive, and based on the odometer, it has done 71,000 miles. Prospective buyers should remember that it is an imported vehicle and may not meet emissions standards in some states.
According to the listing, though, the car is mechanically sound, with the only issue listed as exterior chips and scratches plus some interior wear. As of writing, there are three days left to bid, and the highest is currently at $75,000, so better hurry before someone else gets it before Christmas. Heck, we might even drop our own bid, too.
