Dallas Adding Nearly 29,000 New Apartment Units in 2025

The Dallas metro area ranks 2nd nationwide for new apartment construction in 2025. 

More than half a million new apartments are on track to open across the U.S. in 2025, and Texas stands out as the nation’s largest builder, expecting about 81,400 new rentals this year.  

Here are more insights from RentCafe.com’s Apartment Construction report: 

• Dallas is set to welcome the largest share of Texas’s new apartments in 2025 — 28,958 rentals, or roughly 35% of the state’s total new units. 

• This surpasses the combined construction volume in the Houston and San Antonio metro areas, which together will add 22,500 units. 
   

• Dallas proper is leading the metro’s building spree with 5,780 new units estimated to open in 2025. 

• Close behind is Fort Worth with nearly 3,800 units, followed by McKinney with around 2,000units. Denton is on track to open 1,700 new apartments by the end of the year.
