It’s 2012 all over again. More than a decade ago, Apple was sued over false advertising claims over the capabilities of Siri. Now, it’s 2025 and Apple is facing a similar lawsuit, this time over Apple Intelligence. The company has attempted to get the Apple Intelligence lawsuit dismissed, but Clarkson Law has filed an opposition to the dismissal.
Apple Intelligence lawsuit dismissal
The opposition litigation, Clarkson Law Firm, filed late last week an opposition against the dismissal of the Apple Intelligence lawsuit. The law firm maintains that Apple had violated multiple false advertising and consumer protection laws. This is because Apple had allegedly failed to deliver on some features of its Apple Intelligence suite of AI tools.
For those unfamiliar, the lawsuit was filed against Apple for allegedly misleading consumers into buying Apple products. It claims that customers bought these products with the expectation that they would get immediate access to Apple Intelligence features. However, as many of you all know, Apple did not launch Apple Intelligence with iOS 18. Instead, the company took a while before it rolled out its AI tools, and even then, it wasn’t complete as there were still some features still missing.
Apple has countered those claims, saying that customers still benefited significantly from the upgraded hardware. Apple also wants credit for the fact that it did eventually release some AI tools, with more on the way at no additional costs to customers.
Siri lawsuit all over again
If this lawsuit sounds familiar, it is because Apple had faced a similar issue shortly after Siri’s launch. Back when Apple first unveiled Siri, the company showed off all the things the virtual assistant could do. However, in real-life, it was a very different story. This eventually led to an Apple customer in New York, Frank M. Fazio, suing Apple for false advertising claims.
Like we said, this new Apple Intelligence lawsuit sounds remarkably similar to the case back in 2012. At WWDC 2024, Apple showed off Apple Intelligence. This was supposed to be Apple’s answer to Gemini and Galaxy AI. The company promised a lot of features, but as it turns out, it was all marketing.
Reports claimed that the features Apple was advertising were cooked up by its marketing department. Apparently the team behind Siri and Apple Intelligence did not even know about these advertised features. It remains to be seen if Apple can regain the trust of its customers. Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that a revamped Siri is on track for a 2026 launch.
We were initially skeptical given the disastrous launch of Apple Intelligence, but maybe we don’t have to be. The latest rumors claim that Apple is working with Google on a customized version of Gemini which will power the new Siri.
