Google is slowly integrating AI into most of its first-party applications. It recently integrated Gemini to its Translate app, allowing users to learn any particular language from scratch. Now, the tech giant has introduced a new AI feature in Chrome for Android that can read any webpage like a podcast.
Chrome for Android will soon be able to convert webpages into podcast-style audio
If you can recall, NotebookLM has a feature called “Audio Overview.” It uses AI to turn any document or book into a podcast-style audio overview. The web browser already supported reading webpages aloud, but with the new update, it will be able to generate a podcast-style audio overview of any of your favorite webpages.
The feature was first discovered by Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority) on the stable version of Chrome for Android. According to the report, the rollout of the feature has already begun in batches, and more users will receive the AI-powered audio overview feature in the coming days.
The AI-powered audio overview can turn any boring articles into interactive audio
The audio overview feature is more than a basic audio readout of the webpages. When enabled, the AI analyzes the webpages and their content, and then generates a podcast-style audio overview of them. Users can turn any webpage into an interactive audio session, where they will hear two AI hosts detailing the content in an easy-to-understand manner.
Accessing the feature is pretty straightforward. You have to open the webpage on Chrome for Android, then click on three dots, and then select Listen to this page. You will see the Audio Overview option here. The AI might take a few seconds, or even minutes, depending on the content of the webpage, before it finally gives you an option to hear the audio overview. You must be updated to the latest version to try out the following feature.
