Car companies and their designers have taken the shift to electric vehicles to also be an opportunity to really experiment with vehicle style and functionality. Some of that experimentation has given us some seriously cool-looking vehicles, from the affordable such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, to the extravagant such as the Cadillac Celestiq. Some of that experimentation has led to designers messing with things that didn’t necessarily need messing with. Among those things are door handles, which are frequently becoming completely flush-mounted, often with the use of electric motors. Although they’re aerodynamic and stylish, they aren’t as immediately convenient and can have some potential safety issues. For those reasons, it seems that China is on the verge of banning the designs altogether.
