A Redesign Previewed by Patent Filing
The current Chevrolet Silverado has only been around since 2019, which is still considered new in the world of full-size pickups. These trucks usually stick around for years, with updates keeping them in the game. Still, a full redesign is on the horizon, and Chevrolet’s latest design patent hints at what’s next.
Car and Driver first spotted these design filings from the US Patent and Trademark Office – look it up using number D1,104,864 – and they look a lot like the next-generation Silverado. It’s not an official debut, but it gives us a glimpse at Chevrolet’s direction while the production model stays hidden. If everything stays on track, we could see a reveal next year and a showroom launch in 2027.

A Familiar-Looking Silverado
The sketches don’t stray far from Silverado tradition. Up front, the design stays squared-off, with a slim light bar tracing the edge of the hood. The main headlights sit below in a bold C-shaped pattern.
At the rear, the C-shape shows up again in the taillights, now matched with what seems to be a full-width trim piece across the tailgate. The hood gets twin bulges, and the rear bumper has cutouts for four exhaust tips – a clear sign that V8 power isn’t going anywhere.
The patent skips the interior, but earlier spy photos point to a massive 33-inch display stretching across the dash, much like what Cadillac uses in its EVs. Of course, design patents don’t always match what ends up in showrooms. In a statement to C&D, Chevrolet says these filings are mainly to protect their ideas, not to preview the final product.

Next-Gen V8?
Looks aside, the real story for the next Silverado could be what’s under the hood. GM has already confirmed a new V8 is in the works for its trucks and SUVs, with production set for 2027. That lines up perfectly with the expected launch of the redesigned Silverado.
Recent V8 reliability problems have mostly come down to oil choices, especially thin oils that can’t always handle real-world use – at least that’s according to GM’s service bulletins, though we all knew better.
Word is, the next Gen 6 pushrod V8s will be built with thicker oils in mind from day one, putting durability ahead of squeezing out a bit more efficiency. With emissions rules relaxing a bit, engineers can finally focus on making these engines last. If that holds true, the next Silverado’s V8 might not grab headlines, but it should go the distance.
