Think of Cambridge Audio, and you might think of the company’s long and rich history with powerful amplifiers capable of driving some of the most demanding speakers out there. However, the company is starting to diversify its offerings. Instead of catering to the high-end audiophile market, they are now looking to target the everyday user. This has resulted in the launch of its new wireless earbuds, the Cambridge Audio Melomania A100.
Melomania A100 wireless earbuds
In case you didn’t know, the Melomania A100 isn’t Cambridge Audio’s first foray into the true wireless earbuds market. That was in 2019 with the Melomania 1. Then last year, the company launched the Melomania M100.
As you can see from the photos below, the A100 is quite a departure in terms of design compared to the M100. Instead of opting for a rounded bud design that we’ve seen from the likes of Samsung and Bose, Cambridge Audio went with a stem design for the A100. This is ultimately a preference in aesthetics.
However, the longer stem means the microphones are technically closer to your mouth. This should result in clearer voice calls. The earbuds are equipped with a six-microphone array and can isolate speech from environmental noise, perfect if you’re on a conference call inside a cafe.
As for the actual audio, Cambridge Audio has equipped the earbuds with Class AB amplification and 10mm-sized Neodymium drivers. The company claims that this will deliver deeper bass, richer mids, and clearer highs. The earbuds also support connectivity options such as Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC.
Battery life seems decent. The company advertises 11 hours on a single charge and up to 39 hours when used with its carrying/charging case. Of course, these numbers will change depending on your music volume levels and whether noise cancellation is turned on. There is an accompanying app that allows users to adjust the equalizer and the degree of noise cancellation.
Pricing & availability
The good news is that the Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 wireless earbuds aren’t that expensive. They cost $149, which, for their specs and features, makes them an excellent value for money buy. They are also slightly cheaper than their predecessor, the Melomania M100. If you’re interested in picking a pair up for yourself, the US launch is set for later this year.
