Earlier in June, Bose introduced the 2nd-gen variant of the QuietComfort Ultra earbuds. The company has now announced the 2nd-gen Bose QuietComfort Ultra over-ear headphones during the IFA 2025 event. Bose’s 2nd-gen of these headphones arrive nearly two years after the 2023 original model.
Bose’s new QuietComfort Ultra 2 variant has upgrades in audio, battery, active noise cancellation, and some other key departments. However, there’s not much difference between the design of the new model and the earlier variant from 2023.
The 2nd-gen Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones better than ever
Bose promises that the 2nd-gen QuietComfort Ultra headphones offer upgrades to noise cancellation, spatial audio, wired audio, performance, and user experience. First up is the audio section; the new headphones finally offer lossless audio over a wired USB-C connection. Users can expect 16-bit/44.1kHz or 48kHz playback, apart from getting low latency for desktop or mobile gaming.
The first-gen QuietComfort Ultra debuted with the company’s proprietary spatial audio format: Immersive Audio. Now, the brand has added a new Cinema Mode, which expands the Immersive Audio functionality to include a tuning for dialogue in movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. For general listening, Bose is offering deeper bass at high volume, natural treble, and consistent clarity across the instrument spectrum.
Improved battery life, enhanced ANC, and better on-head detection
Coming to the other features, Bose has improved the battery life of the QuietComfort Ultra 2nd-gen offering. They now offer an extended battery life of 30 hours with ANC on and up to 45 hours with noise cancellation disabled. If you want to use the Immersive Audio feature all the time, the new headphones deliver up to 24 hours of use on a single charge.
As for ANC, similar to the new QC Ultra Earbuds, Bose has updated the feature so the headphones can now better handle sudden changes in environmental noise. Also, there are smoother changes to the noise-canceling levels. Another notable change in the new model is that users can now completely disable noise cancellation.
Bose has also improved the head detection mode on the new offering. The new headphones will enter a low-power standby mode when you lay them flat or fold them into the included carrying case, which Bose says will keep them alive for months. Also, once you wear them again, they will automatically power up and connect to an earlier paired device. Also, users can listen to the headphones in wired mode, even while connected to a charging source.
Bose has priced the new QuietComfort Ultra headphones at $449. They cost just $20 more than the original’s price tag of $429. Interested buyers can already place preorders for the device through the company’s online store. You can order them in black, white smoke, driftwood sand, and midnight violet, with availability starting on October 2.
