- Spy photographers have snapped what is believed to be the facelifted BMW X1.
- The model features a heavily revised exterior that blends elements from the X3 and iX3.
- Besides the Neue Klasse front fascia, the crossover has retractable door handles.
BMW officially ushered in the Neue Klasse era with the unveiling of the redesigned iX3 earlier today. However, the journey is just beginning as Neue Klasse features will be “incorporated into nearly 40 new models and model updates between now and 2027.”
Spy photographers have already snapped a number of these upcoming vehicles including the facelifted M5 and 2027 X5. We’re now getting a glimpse at another one and it’s believed to be the facelifted X1.

While these identifications are normally pretty easy, the crossover closely resembles a Neue Klasse-ified X3. As such, it features a minimalist grille as well as the company’s new horizontal light signature. They’re accompanied by a wide lower intake and a new hood with a “valley” in the center.
Moving further back, we can see flush-mounted door handles and iX3-style side skirts. The model also appears to have new side mirrors that echo those on the X3.

The extensive changes continue out back as the model has a new rear bumper and updated lighting units. Eagle-eyed observers will also notice a revised liftgate, which features a repositioned license plate area.
Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but the cabin should be equipped with Panoramic iDrive. This means we can expect a pillar-to-pillar display as well as a 17.9-inch infotainment system.
The extent of the changes is surprising as the third-generation X1 is only a few years old. This would typically result in a relatively minor facelift, but this appears to be a pretty big update and one that’s more extensive than the freshened 5-Series.
Engine options remain unconfirmed, but could carryover. That remains to be seen, but we can expect a clearer picture in the months ahead.
