A day on the water is supposed to be a great time and the emotions leading up to such it are usually exciting. Things took a turn for the worse quite quickly for one BMW owner, though, as, while trying to launch their jet ski into the Vistula River in Poland, they managed to sink their 7-Series instead.

According to local authorities, the incident happened on Sunday at the OSiR Marina on Plocka Street, in Wlocklawek. The Wlocklawek Volunteer Rescue Service (WOPR) says that the driver successfully launched their personal water craft but then the car began to slip as well.
A Quick Escape
The good news is that the driver managed to get out of the BMW before it went into the water. While they probably felt relief at first, the realization of what had just happened must have hit pretty quick. Seven members of the WOPR and divers from the State Fire Service showed up to help. Pictures from the site show the crew going the extra nautical mile to get the car out.
Divers strapped tow straps to the wheels and tow trucks helped to yank the black 7-Series and its trailer out of the water. It’s unclear what model of 7-Series this is but ultimately, the repair bills will likely be too expensive to justify. Most modern cars are already full of technology that doesn’t play well with water. BMW’s take tech to another level, though, as we’ve shown you in past reviews.

Authorities say this isn’t an isolated event. Last month, the driver of an Opel Astra lost it in the very same marina. Damage in that incident was estimated at around 30,000 złoty ( about $7,200 USD). Fortunately, in that case, no one was hurt either.
WOPR reminds drivers to be especially careful when launching vessels. Nobody wants a fun-filled day on the water to turn into a nasty, and pricey, swimming lesson for their car.Â
