This week at Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm finally unveiled the latest chipset that it has designed for wearables with the Snapdragon Wear Elite, and it’s exactly what the wearables market has needed. Boasting several upgrades for devices like smartwatches and fitness trackers, the Snapdragon Wear Elite will provide everything from noticeably improved performance to faster charging.
While the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 on devices like the Pixel Watch 4 has been a decent chip for smartwatches, Samsung’s most recent Exynos chip in the Galaxy Watch 8 series is commonly thought of as a better chipset. Qualcomm’s new chips should change that, and Samsung appears to agree, as it has been confirmed to use the Snapdragon Wear Elite for its next-gen smartwatch.
The Snapdragon Wear Elite will have a CPU that’s 5x faster
Speed is the name of the game here, it seems, and that will really shine through with the Snapdragon Wear Elite, as Qualcomm claims that it’s 5x faster than the previous generation wearable chip. When you look at how fluid and responsive the Pixel Watch 4 is, which uses that previous generation chip, it gives you an idea of just how fast the Snapdragon Wear Elite must be.
In addition to this, Qualcomm says the GPU is 7x faster. In other words, new smartwatches with this chip inside are going to be extremely fast, and user interactions should be very smooth. We also love that the charging speeds are going to be faster. There’s never a time when a smartwatch that charges up more quickly is a bad thing. In fact, noticeably faster charge cycles would be a welcome sight from manufacturers.
Better battery life and quicker charging are huge
On top of this, the Snapdragon Wear Elite will enable a more power-efficient system that will result in longer battery life. So, not only will smartwatches with this chip charge back up more quickly, but the battery will last longer, too. That’s a win-win if we’ve ever seen one. Consumers will finally get smartwatches that will last for multiple days at a time, likely more than casual use. It wasn’t even a question that the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite was deserving of the Best of Mobile World Congress 2026 award.
