Dodge’s Supercharged SUV Clears Final Regulatory Hurdle
The 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is on track to gain 50-state certification, ending regional restrictions caused by emissions regulations. Internal dealer documents indicate that Dodge expects to complete California Air Resources Board (CARB) approval by December 2025, clearing the way for sales in California, New York, and other CARB-compliant states for the first time.
This milestone marks a significant regulatory win for Dodge as it adapts to stricter emissions standards across the U.S. Once certified, the brand will offer both the Durango SRT Hellcat and the Hellcat Jailbreak nationwide, the latter adding expanded customization options through Dodge’s factory personalization program.

Full V8 Lineup Returns for 2026
During the 2025 Roadkill Nights event in Pontiac, Michigan, Dodge confirmed that every 2026 Durango model sold to U.S. retail buyers will come with HEMI V8 power. The long-running Pentastar V6 will remain in limited use for fleet and government orders, while the new GT HEMI AWD introduces a 5.7-liter V8 as the most affordable all-wheel-drive V8 in the U.S., starting at $42,495 before fees.
Moving up the range, the Durango R/T 392 brings a 6.4-liter HEMI producing 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, now bundled with the Tow N’ Go package as standard. Sitting at the top of the lineup, the Durango SRT Hellcat returns with 710 horsepower from its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 and a base price of $79,995, reaffirming its status as one of the most powerful three-row SUVs on the market.

Overcoming CARB Restrictions
Earlier order guides had listed both the Durango R/T 392 and Durango SRT Hellcat as “FED states only,” preventing sales in CARB-regulated regions such as California, Massachusetts, and Washington. A Dodge spokesperson at the time confirmed the company was exploring ways to bring the full V8 lineup to those markets.
That effort now appears close to paying off. Fresh dealer communications suggest that CARB certification is entering its final phase, setting the stage for nationwide availability across all three V8 models. If completed, it would mark the first time since the Durango Hellcat’s return that customers in every state can order one through their local Dodge dealer.

Displacement Over Digital
As much of the industry pivots toward hybrid and electric powertrains, Dodge’s pursuit of 50-state approval for its supercharged SUV highlights the brand’s continued commitment to traditional muscle. The Durango SRT Hellcat’s certification would signal that high-performance, large-displacement engines still have a place in today’s tightening regulatory landscape.
With the Charger Daytona leading Dodge’s entry into electrified performance, the 2026 Durango lineup serves as a reminder of the brand’s roots. Achieving full nationwide legality for its most potent SUV ensures that one of the last supercharged HEMI-powered models remains within reach of enthusiasts from coast to coast.
