It’s often said that there are too many chair designs out there. And it could also be argued that there are too many desks. Standing out is hard; a designer and/or producer needs to bring something truly original or inventive to the market. Though not bombastic in its stylistic composition, the Balolo Setup Cockpit system is hyper-functional and aesthetically pleasing. Its true added value, however, is its myriad accessories.
Developed by German manufacturer Balobo, the desk-mounted patform—primarily used to pedestal larger computer monitors—turns an environment too-often defined by clutter and disorganization into a serene oasis for focused, well managed work.
The main, straightforwardly designed, platform is made of quality hardwood—variants include American hardwood, Oak, Black stain—and steel. The endless array of added-on components reflect that same level of German engineering and hyper-efficiency. The ever-extrapulated system lends itself particularly well to personalization and hence, better functionality.
The accessories on offer include a laptop riser and dock; storage trays; various MagSafe holders; and mounts for tablets, watches, and other unexpected gadgets. Like the preexisting Smart Accessory Holder—engineered for screens with additional controls and apps—the just released Controller Holder is defined by its minimal, form fitting profile, holding mobile or cord-connected game-play controllers in place just at the right balance point.
Like all of the other components, the ledge element hinges into a hidden track system—a proprietary Mounting Grid— within the Setup Cockpit base. The accessories can easily be arranged and rearranged again. Plane cockpits are often configured with similar attention to detail; specific for the routing, weather conditions, etc. of each flight, as well as the nuanced proclivities of each pilot; with safety remaining the overarching objective. Perhaps not with that central goal or level of responsibility, everyone from a sound producer and graphic designer to an accountant requires a similar degree of control.
According to the brand, the product was imagined to not necessarily follow trends but instead, to truly support the different ways people work. There’s no need for superfluous bells and whistles. Effective performance isn’t aided by having more and more gadgets but rather, the right, ever-optimised tools. One has to just think about how they configure the applications on their computers or phones, removing what isn’t essential and prioritizing what is.
“Balolo stands out by combining modular designs made in Germany with premium materials,” says Ruben Keferstein. “Creating workspaces that are as versatile as they are inspiring. Unlike other brands, we focus on products that seamlessly blend functionality, individuality, and aesthetics, designed with our community to elevate every creative setup.”
