Google Wallet, to ease the access of carrying documents, is continuing to grow its list of supported digital IDs in the US. Arkansas has now become the latest state to get the ID support of Google Wallet. It now becomes the tenth state to offer digital ID support, following others like California, Maryland, and Arizona.
Residents of Arkansas now have the support of digital IDs in Google Wallet
With the following announcement, the residents will now have the support of storing and presenting their Arkansas state ID or driver’s license directly from their Android smartphones. Adding the state ID to the wallet is as easy as uploading photos of the ID from both front and back, followed by a quick facial verification video.
Once uploaded, Google will then confirm the details with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (AR FDA) within minutes. Once the approval is provided, the user will be able to access the digitally stored document. And use it for verification/official purposes wherever needed.
Documents are stored securely with controlled sharing options
One of the main concerns regarding digital documents has always been about sharing. Questions like “What if someone gets access to my device and transfers my credentials?” often arise in our minds. But with Google Wallet, the user stays in full control. Information exchange can only be done securely via NFC or Bluetooth. It further needs biometric verification before starting the sharing process.
As of right now, the digital documents are accepted by the TSA at select airports and are designed for quick, contactless identity checks. However, residents must still carry their physical ID, as digital versions don’t yet replace them. Also, to use or add digital IDs, your phone must be on Android 8 or later. The screen lock and Bluetooth must also be enabled.
