Apple has made changes and upgrades to its iPhones over the years to reduce the size of the bezels of the display. It hasn’t eliminated it completely, plus with use of Dynamic Island, it’s not quite an all-screen iPhone. However, that could change next year. According to the latest rumors, Apple could debut an iPhone with an all-screen display in 2026.
iPhone with all-screen display coming in 2026
In a JPMorgan analyst report seen by 9to5Mac, the analysts believe Apple could debut its first-ever iPhone with an all-screen display in 2026. For those wondering what that means, it basically means that Apple could use an under-display camera for the front of the phone. So, which iPhone in 2026 would be sporting such a design?
Normally, Apple reserves its new hardware features for its Pro and Pro Max models, but that isn’t the case here. According to the report, the foldable iPhone will have that honor. In a way, it makes perfect sense. A recent report revealed that Apple might not incorporate Face ID in its foldable iPhone. Instead, the company will utilize Touch ID.
This makes it a lot easier for Apple. This is because without Face ID, Apple doesn’t need to worry about whether the TrueDepth camera system can work through the display. It only needs to worry about the camera system. However, we’ve already seen that feature in Android phones, so we know it’s possible. It might not necessarily produce the best photos, but it works.
What about other iPhones?
Now, obviously seeing Apple apply this design to its other iPhones would be great. However, we might have to wait a bit longer for that. According to the rumors, Apple is expected to gradually introduce an under-display camera and Face ID system over the next couple of years.
Analysts believe that Apple will take the first step in 2026 by putting Face ID under the display. Then, in 2027, Apple will move over to an under-display camera. The analyst report from JPMorgan contradicts that slightly. If Apple is confident enough to use an under-display camera for its foldable iPhone, why not use it for the rest of the lineup as well? Why wait until 2027?
Either way, we’re still quite a long ways to go before we see the 2026 iPhones. So, until then take it with a grain of salt.
