Recently, Counterpoint Research revealed that Apple became the world’s top smartphone marker, as it trumped Samsung in 2025. Well, now IDC has released its own report for Q4 2025 and the year as a whole.
Apple trumped Samsung in terms of smartphone sales in Q4 2025 and 2025 as a whole
In Q4 2025, Apple managed to sell 81.3 million smartphones, compared to Samsung’s 61.2 million. The company’s sales grew 4.9% YoY (Year-over-Year), while Samsung’s grew 18.3% YoY.
Even though Samsung’s sales grew more since last year, Apple still managed to grab that first spot, comfortably. It claimed 24.2% of the market compared to Samsung’s 18.2%.
The third-placed company is Xiaomi, who sold 37.8 millino phones, and claimed 11.2% of the market. Xiaomi marked a drop in sales of 11.4% compared to the same period last year. IT’s comfortable in third place, but far below Samsung.
Vivo is fourth-placed with 27 million devices sold, as the company claimed 8% of the market. Vivo’s sales dropped 0.4% compared to Q4 2024. OPPO is fifth-placed with 26.9 million devices sold, as the company also grabbed 8% of the market. OPPO’s sales grew 7.6% compared to the same period last year.
IDC also released a report for the entire year 2025. The list is identical to the Q4 in terms of the order of the companies, but the numbers are different, of course.
Apple sold 247.8 million phones in 2025, Samsung 241.2 million
In 2025, Apple managed to sell 247.8 million phones and claim 19.7% of the market. Samsung sold 241.2 million devices, as it claimed 19.1% of the market. Apple’s sales grew 6.3% YoY, while Samsung’s grew 7.9% YoY.
Xiaomi is third-placed with 165.3 million devices sold, and 13.1% of the market claimed. Its sales dropped 1.9% in 2025. Vivo sold 103.9 million devices, as it claimed 8.2% of the market. Vivo’s sales grew by 2.7% YoY.
OPPO is fifth-placed, as the company managed to sell 102 million devices, and claimed 8.1% of the market in 2025. OPPO’s sales dropped by 1.3% YoY.
All the other smartphone manufacturers combined sold 400 million smartphones in 2025. They claimed the remaining 31.7% of the market, as their sales dropped by 1.3%. 1,260,300 phones were sold in 2025, altogether, 1.9% more than in 2024.
