Companies like Apple and Samsung tend to reuse the same design of their phones for a few years, with some minor iterations here and there. However, we might have some good news for iPhone fans out there. A recent post on Naver by yeux1122 suggests for the next three years, Apple will experiment with different iPhone designs.
Apple to experiment with different iPhone designs
According to the machine translated post, it reads, “Apple is said to be releasing a new form factor iPhone every year after the release of the new Fold product in 2026.” But before you get too excited, here’s what the post really means.
If you were hoping that this meant that Apple would update the design of the iPhone every year, that won’t be the case. Instead, the report suggests that Apple will experiment with different iPhone designs for the next three years, meaning that the company will try its hand at different form factors.
We’ve already heard the rumors that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone. However, recently, there are reports that Apple is apparently working on a flip phone as well. Lastly, there are rumors surrounding the 20th anniversary iPhone. This model is rumored to sport a bezel-less display and will be made mostly out of glass and metal.
To date, the only new design we’ve seen in an iPhone so far is the iPhone Air. Apple did update the iPhone 17 Pro models with a new camera hump, but otherwise it’s not too different from its predecessors.
Some plans might be delayed
That being said, we’ve been hearing conflicting rumors about when Apple plans to launch its first foldable iPhone. The original rumors claimed Apple would launch its first foldable in 2026. Unfortunately, that may not be the case anymore. The latest reports claim that due to production hurdles, Apple could push the launch to 2027.
This is a bummer as we are quite excited to see what Apple brings to the table. As for the iPhone 18 series, which are due in 2026, those aren’t expected to see major redesigns either. The next few years should be quite interesting for Apple, and also necessary.
Smartphone tech has plateaued. The increase in performance isn’t as big as it once was, and cameras, other than increasing in megapixel count, haven’t really seen that much change either. This means that companies like Apple need to rely on design to keep customers interested.
