Apple recently introduced the MacBook Neo, its most affordable laptop yet, priced at $599. It’s a one-of-its-kind product that has been launched specifically to target budget notebook buyers. Now, an analyst has shared some important updates about the MacBook Neo’s shipment estimate and the firm’s plan of offering touchscreen display in future versions.
Kuo shares updates about Apple’s MacBook Neo shipments
Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently shared a few updates about the shipment and production of the newly launched MacBook Neo. As per his industry checks, Apple plans to ship around 4.5 to 5 million units of the MacBook Neo during 2026. The company had earlier projected to ship about 5 to 7 million units, but they had to change the estimate due to the delayed launch. But despite the decrease, the value suggests strong demand for the budget MacBook in the consumer market.
Moreover, the source reports that only Quanta is handling the production of the MacBook Neo. However, other suppliers may soon join production. Foxconn could become an additional assembler in the near future, while Luxshare is also reportedly interested in participating in Apple’s growing MacBook manufacturing network.
Future MacBook Neo might get a touchscreen and an OLED display
It was earlier reported that Apple is internally planning to deliver the future MacBook Neo with a touchscreen display. This feature will enable the device to compete directly with the Chromebooks, many of which already support touch input. However, recent supply chain checks indicate that Apple may skip this feature for the Neo 2 generation.
Instead, Apple appears to be reserving touchscreen display tech for more premium MacBook models. Reports indicate that a major MacBook Pro redesign with OLED touch displays could arrive in late 2026 or early 2027. Moreover, Apple’s MacBook Air lineup may take longer to adopt OLED technology. Current projections suggest that the OLED-equipped MacBook Air could arrive around 2028 or 2029.
