Recently, it was reported that due to various issues Apple encountered during its internal testing that the launch of Siri 2.0 would be delayed. The latest reports claim that we could see Apple spread the launch across multiple updates. But could it be delayed into 2027? Thankfully, that won’t be the case. According to Apple, the company confirms that Siri is still on track for a 2026 launch.
Apple says Siri 2.0 still coming in 2026
According to a recent report from CNBC, Apple told the publication that it is still on track to launch its new version of Siri in 2026. The company does not mention when exactly that will happen, so we’ll have to wait and see. However, since the previous reports were only rumors, we guess it wouldn’t be fair to say that it was “delayed.”
Earlier reports claimed that Apple could unveil the upcoming changes later this month. However, a more comprehensive launch would take place in March or April, roughly around the time of Apple’s 50th anniversary. In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook did tease that the company had big AI plans and would celebrate its 50th anniversary. But recent reports suggest that maybe it could be a slightly more muted celebration.
What do we know so far?
So far, we know that Apple has confirmed that its new version of Siri would be powered by Google’s Gemini AI model. Apple is expected to pay Google billions to license the Gemini model. There is also a bit of confusion on that front. Apple previously claimed that the model would run on its Private Cloud Compute servers. However, a more recent report claimed that Siri would run on Google’s servers.
This is a bigger deal than you think. Apple prides itself on privacy, and running Siri on its own servers gives it more control. Handing it over to Google could ruffle the feathers of its more privacy-minded users.
Now, like we said, Apple initially planned to unveil the changes to Siri this month. However, a report claimed that the company encountered a bunch of issues during testing. This includes requests taking too long to process. There were also instances of the AI model failing to understand complex queries. Then, there were cases where Siri would cut users off if they spoke too quickly.
Given how Siri and Apple Intelligence has been a joke since day one, Apple really needs to get it right this time. The company has been given multiple chances by its users over the years, so there’s a lot riding on this.
