The Android 17 Beta 3 update is now available for users with compatible devices, and it includes some enhancements for hearing aids that should be a big upgrade for people that use them. Android has had some form of hearing aid support for years now, with upgrades coming in one way or another every so often. More recently, for example, Google added fast pair for hearing aids.
In the Android 17 Beta 3, Google is pushing things a little further. Both of these upgrades revolve around notifications and alerts. Specifically, notifications for things like incoming messages or emails, or any other notification that comes from an app, and then ringtones and alarms. While these changes are part of the Android 17 beta 3 update, it’s still only available on compatible devices. However, it very well could be rolled out to all users once Android 17 goes live in its stable form.
Android 17 Beta 3 update prevents hearing aids from receiving notification sounds
This beta update offers two main changes for hearing aid users. First, there’s the one that pertains to notification sounds. A new toggle lets hearing aid users disable a toggle for notification sounds. Turning this toggle off makes it so that notification sounds don’t come through the hearing aid. Since this is a toggle it can be left on for those who want those sounds to come in. But there are probably some users out there who might have more sensitive hearing and need t have them disabled.
The second toggle makes it so that ringtones and alarms don’t play at as high of a volume. Again, this should be good for people with more sensitive hearing. In addition to the hearing aid enhancements, Android 17 Beta 3 also brings in some other notable changes. Such as a priority charging mode, and a fix for a particular camera problem.
