Google’s Pixel phones are in for another update starting this week with the arrival of the Android 16 QPR3 beta 2.1 update that’s currently rolling out to compatible devices. The update is a sizeable yet not massive 123MB, so it shouldn’t take long for users to download. That file size also more or less confirms that there aren’t any major changes to the UI, apps, or API.
Rather, this update is more about bug fixes and patching issues that were introduced with Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2, which was released back in January. As for specific fixes, Google’s release notes for the Android 16 QPR3 beta 2.1 update don’t give out any details on what exactly is being fixed. However, there’s a good chance some of those fixes are for problems that surfaced in the last update. As noted by Android Authority, these are fixes that attempt to address bugs that could impact how the phone functions from day to day.
The Android 16 QPR3 beta 2.1 update doesn’t show any immediate signs of visual changes
This doesn’t appear to be an update that’s geared towards visual changes or new features. So, it’s likely going to feel less exciting for users who install it. That being said, it’s probably still an important update regardless. Mainly because these kinds of smaller updates are meant to address problems that impact daily use. They tend to fix issues that might make something non-functional. Even if those features are small.
As of right now, it’s not clear what issues are being fixed with this update. It should make the usability of the most recent Android 16 QPR3 build more stable, though. This update started rolling out on February 10. That means it might be a day or two before all compatible Pixel users have the software available for download.
As for compatible devices, Google has two release builds for Android QPR3 beta 2.1 that are being pushed out. One for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro is listed as build CP11.251209.009. Then there’s build CP11.251209.009.A1, which is aimed at all other supported Pixel devices that came after the Pixel 7 series. This includes the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8 Pro XL, Pixel 8a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL (which is one of the Best Android Phones of 2025), and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
