For every Olympiad, Samsung releases an Olympic Edition of its latest phone. Which for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which happens to be the Galaxy Z Flip 7. These are special editions that are given to every athlete competing at the Olympics, so they are able to keep in touch with friends and family. Samsung also usually provides service with whatever local carrier is covering the games.
These special edition phones are typically not available for purchase. But some athletes do tend to put theirs up on eBay to sell. And that’s what’s happening again this year.
Someone has posted a 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage model of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 Olympic Edition for $1,680. That’s quite pricey, considering the same storage and RAM model of the basic Galaxy Z Flip 7 is on sale for $1,019 here in the US. Leading many to wonder why they would pay nearly double for this special edition model.

The user listed it as a Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is obviously not accurate. As we can see from the photos and model number, this is the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Why do athletes sell these special edition phones?
You might be wondering why athletes always sell these special edition phones that they receive for free. Well, with a lot of the lesser-known sports, these athletes are struggling to make ends meet. They aren’t millionaires like those competing in Ice Hockey or Basketball in the Summer Olympics.
So it’s a way for them to make some cash while they are away from home at the Olympics. And the majority of them likely use an iPhone anyway, and wouldn’t want to switch to Samsung. Which sucks for Samsung, but they are at least getting their phones into more and more hands.
Samsung does this for every Olympic Games because they are a huge sponsor of the Olympics.
