Amazon is doing yet another thing that its subscribers might actually find pretty annoying. After announcing to increase ad load on Prime Video back in June, Amazon is now cutting back on Prime shared benefits. The company has now announced it will discontinue the Prime Invitee program. In other words, you won’t be able to share Prime’s shipping benefits with members outside your household soon.
Amazon to slash Prime shared benefits as it decides to discontinue “Invitee” program on October 1
To catch you up, Prime members could invite several friends and family outside of the household as part of the “Invitee” program. This allowed other users to enjoy benefits like free and fast shipping on their Amazon orders. That’s not all; even non-Prime members took advantage of the program.
While the “Invitee” program didn’t include other Prime benefits, like Prime Video, it was actually useful. Now, the perk will be gone for good very soon. Amazon, in an updated support page, notes that it’ll discontinue the Prime Invitee program on October 1. So, you’ve still got a whole month to take advantage of the perk.
Amazon has reportedly started notifying users about the upcoming change. According to users, the received email includes an offer for a discounted first year for the Amazon Prime subscription. Many Prime users who have signed up for the subscription may have forgotten that the “Invitee” program was still in place. But, the latest update definitely reminded them about it.
The company is trying to bring in Prime sign ups with this move
If we have to think about it from a business perspective, the tech giant is looking to bring in more Prime sign ups by killing the “Invitee” program. In addition, it’s also a reminder to the users that Amazon has a “Family” plan that lets them share Prime benefits without any sudden disruption.
