Amazon introduced the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition last October as the first Kindle-branded e-reader with a color display. The e-commerce giant has now added two more products to its Kindle Colorsoft range: a more affordable model with less storage and a new Kindle Colorsoft Kids. As their names suggest, both new devices offer the same Colorsoft screen that the company debuted last year.
Meet Amazon’s first-ever Kindle for kids with a color display
Amazon’s first-ever Kindle for kids with a color screen “brings covers and content to life”. It has a 7-inch Colorsoft display with optimized font technology and a color filter layer that’s easy on the eyes. The device can house thousands of e-books with 16GB of built-in storage. Amazon says the new Kindle for kids can last for up to eight weeks on a single charge, when used for half an hour of reading per day.
The children-centric features of the Kindle Colorsoft Kids include a colorful protective case available in two shades, a year of Amazon Kids Plus subscription, and the brand’s usual suite of parental controls. The new Kindle also has a handful of functionalities to help kids practice reading, like a vocabulary builder and a feature called Word Wise to help them learn new words. There’s also Bluetooth connectivity to listen to audiobooks.
The new Kindle Colorsoft model costs less by removing some perks
As for the new affordable Kindle Colorsoft, it has 16GB of storage instead of 32GB. Apart from reducing the storage, Amazon has also removed the wireless charging and the auto-adjusting front light features in the newer model. It also features a 7-inch high-contrast Colorsoft display of the original, an adjustable warm light, fast page turns, and more. It also offers up to eight weeks of battery life and a three-month subscription to Kindle Unlimited.
Coming to the pricing, the new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft costs $249.99, $30 less than the original Signature Edition. As for the Kindle Colorsoft Kids, Amazon has priced it at $269.99. Both are available to buy starting today.
