- V6 Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio will return to life in 2026.
- CEO shifts focus to smaller models, dropping large EV plans.
- Next Giulia and Stelvio stay flagship with hybrid and EV options.
While we were waiting for the next-generation Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio to make their long-anticipated debut anytime now, Stellantis decided to change course, extending production of the current models until the end of 2027 and delaying the arrival of their successors.

And that’s only half the story. Alongside the regular variants, the brand plans to revive the discontinued Quadrifoglio models and has also decided it won’t venture into larger segments, a move that’s hardly shocking, considering every Alfa CEO for the past two decades has promised a flagship sedan and SUV without ever delivering one.
The Big Alfa Is Dead
Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili is expected to present a revised roadmap in the first half of 2026. Ahead of that, he offered a few clues to Automotive News. Ficili confirmed that Alfa will focus on the small (Junior), compact (Tonale), and midsize (Giulia/Stelvio) segments, emphasizing that large cars simply aren’t the brand’s “territory.”
Review: The Junior Is Everything Alfa Romeo Needed And Nothing Alfisti Wanted
This marks an important change from the plans of the previous CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, who wanted a large SUV with a fully electric powertrain. That planned flagship was to ride on Stellantis’s STLA Large platform and arrive in 2027, aimed squarely at North America and possibly China.
However, the new leadership seems less eager to chase BMW, Mercedes, and Audi in the big-EV arena. Instead, the delayed successors to the Giulia and Stelvio will remain at the top of the Alfa Romeo lineup. Built on the STLA Medium architecture, they’ll offer both hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
The Return Of The Cloverleaf
Shortly after the world bid farewell to the Quadrifoglio versions of the Giulia and Stelvio, both models are already preparing for a comeback. Jules Tilstone, Managing Director of Alfa Romeo UK, told Autocar that production of the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio will restart in April 2026.
Tilstone noted that the powertrain “will be effectively the same”, suggesting that the duo will keep the non-electrified twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 under the hood. The engine may need minor revisions to satisfy Euro 7 emissions rules, though any resulting performance changes are expected to be minimal.
Review: Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio Feels More Sports Car Than SUV
That V6 delivered up to 513 hp (383 kW / 520 PS) in special Quadrifoglio editions and reached 532 hp (397 kW / 540 PS) in the limited-run Giulia GTA and GTAm.
In the US, availability of the Quadrofoglio models ended in 2024 with the limited production Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Super Sport editions. Whether Alfa Romeo will follow those carbon-trimmed specials with new U.S.-spec Quadrifoglio models once production resumes in 2026 remains to be seen.
Earlier reports suggested that Alfa Romeo was considering both combustion and electric versions for future Quadrifoglio models. For now, with the current generation’s production extended, any fresh high-performance variants appear to be some distance away.
