Alexa Plus, which is Amazon’s next-generation AI assistant, is now available to everyone in the US, with a free-text-based chat version for non-Prime subscribers to try. It’s free if you’re a Prime member; if not, $20 per month. This development comes after Alexa Plus went official in February last year. This has been in early access since last year, and Amazon says it has collected feedback from users before rolling it out widely today.
Alexa Plus is now available in the US with a free text-based chat version
Alexa Plus is Amazon’s next-generation assistant with generative AI smarts. It features an entirely new architecture powered by large language models from both Amazon Nova and Anthropic. The tech giant says it’s smarter, more conversational, more personalized, performing a range of things done on your behalf.
If you’re a Prime member, you can start using the new assistant by saying “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa Plus” or by heading to Alexa.com and signing into your Amazon account. This is where you’ll (non-Prime customers) also find the new free Alexa chat feature. You can use this to get quick answers, research, and explore new topics with limited usage.
Free for Prime customers
Amazon says customers can use Alexa Plus to learn, gather information, stay organized, summarize complex topics, shop, book reservations, coordinate across family calendars, and more. Prime customers get unlimited access to the full set of Alexa Plus capabilities. This upgrade works across Alexa-enabled devices, Alexa.com, and the Alexa app. This also helps members get the most out of Prime benefits like Amazon Photos, Prime Video, and Amazon Music.
Interestingly, Prime membership at $15 per month is cheaper than Alexa Plus on its own. Amazon also offers a 30-day free trial of Prime to first-time customers.
